Schafhund Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to Schafhund and always will be. So we’ve developed a Privacy Policy that covers how we collect, use, disclose, transfer, and store your information. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our privacy practices and let us know if you have any questions.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

Personal information is data that can be used to identify or contact a single person.

Schafhund values your privacy. We have prepared this Privacy Policy to explain how we collect, use, protect, and disclose information and data when you use the Schafhund website and mobile applications (collectively, the “Site”) or Schafhund Services (“Services”). This Privacy Policy also explains your choices for managing information preferences, including opting out of certain uses of your Personal Information (defined below). By accessing or using the Site or Services, you consent to this Privacy Policy. If you have questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, please e-mail us at privacy@schafhund.com.

You may be asked to provide your personal information anytime you are in contact with Schafhund or an Schafhund affiliated company. Schafhund and its affiliates may share this personal information with each other and use it consistent with this Privacy Policy. They may also combine it with other information to provide and improve our products, services, content, and advertising. You are not required to provide the personal information that we have requested, but, if you chose not to do so, in many cases we will not be able to provide you with our products or services or respond to any queries you may have.

Here are some examples of the types of personal information Schafhund may collect and how we may use it:

Information We Collect

The following are the specific types of information we collect from you.

Registration and Profile Information. When you register to use Schafhund Services or update your profile, we may collect and store various kinds of information about you including your name, username, student identification number, user’s school, mobile device number, phone number, e-mail address, date of birth, and emergency contact information (“Personal Information”). The decision to provide this information is optional; however, if you choose not to provide certain information, you may not be able to use some or all of the features of the Site or Services.

How we use your personal information

  • The personal information we collect allows us to keep you posted on Schafhund’s latest product announcements, software updates, and upcoming events. If you don’t want to be on our mailing list, you can opt out anytime by updating your preferences.
  • We also use personal information to help us create, develop, operate, deliver, and improve our products, services, content and advertising, and for loss prevention and anti-fraud purposes.
  • We may use your personal information, including date of birth, to verify identity, assist with identification of users, and to determine appropriate services. For example, we may use date of birth to determine the age of Schafhund account holders.
  • From time to time, we may use your personal information to send important notices, such as communications about purchases and changes to our terms, conditions, and policies. Because this information is important to your interaction with Schafhund, you may not opt out of receiving these communications.
  • We may also use personal information for internal purposes such as auditing, data analysis, and research to improve Schafhund’s products, services, and customer communications.
  • If you enter into a sweepstake, contest, or similar promotion we may use the information you provide to administer those programs.

Collection and Use of Non-Personal Information

We also collect data in a form that does not, on its own, permit direct association with any specific individual. We may collect, use, transfer, and disclose non-personal information for any purpose. The following are some examples of non-personal information that we collect and how we may use it:

  • We may collect information such as occupation, language, zip code, area code, unique device identifier, referrer URL, location, and the time zone where an Schafhund product is used so that we can better understand customer behavior and improve our products, services, and advertising.
  • We may collect information regarding customer activities on our website, iCloud services, and from our other products and services. This information is aggregated and used to help us provide more useful information to our customers and to understand which parts of our website, products, and services are of most interest. Aggregated data is considered non‑personal information for the purposes of this Privacy Policy.
  • We may collect and store details of how you use our services, including search queries. This information may be used to improve the relevancy of results provided by our services. Except in limited instances to ensure quality of our services over the Internet, such information will not be associated with your IP address.
  • With your explicit consent, we may collect data about how you use your device and applications in order to help app developers improve their apps.

If we do combine non-personal information with personal information the combined information will be treated as personal information for as long as it remains combined.

Location Information

Schafhund does not use location information unless the user initiates an emergency alert. Schafhund Services require the use of location information and may locate the user using one or a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular triangulation, and Bluetooth iBeacons. Location of user can only be done if (i) you are a minor and your parent or legal guardian or a third party administrator authorized by your parent or legal guardian has provided sufficient consent, or (ii) you are not a minor and agree that Schafhund Services may use your location information. Users under the age of 13 must provide Schafhund with verifiable parental consent before Schafhund will enable the use of location information. Parents or legal guardians on behalf of their children may be able to disable location services on certain mobile devices. Disabling location services will also disable some or all of the features of Schafhund Services.

Schafhund may log and store certain information about your use of Schafhund Service, including but not limited to time stamps for a positioning request (search, receipt notification) and activation of the Services (search, call, receipt notification) etc. Such information shall be logged, stored and retained by Schafhund for up to 90 days unless a request is made by law enforcement to maintain the data for a longer period of time.

Payment Information

Schafhund will not directly collect, process or store financial or payment card information.

Automatically Collected Information

We automatically receive certain types of information when you interact with Schafhund Services and communications. For example, it is standard for your Web browser to automatically send information to every Web site you visit, including ours. That information includes your computer’s IP address, access times, your browser type and language, and referring Web site addresses. We may also collect information about the type of operating system you use, your account activity, and files and pages accessed or used by you. For mobile app users we also automatically collect UID and log.

Usage Data and Site Activity. We automatically collect information regarding the actions users take on the Site (“Usage Data”). For example, each time you use the Site we may automatically collect the type of Web browser you use, your operating system, your Internet Service Provider, your IP address, the pages you view, and the date, time and duration of your visits to the Site. This anonymous usage information may be associated with your username and profile or other Personal Information. We use this information to help us understand how people use the Site and Services.

Cookies and Web Beacons. We use cookies (a small text file placed on your computer to identify your computer and Web browser) to improve the experience of the Site and Services. The use of cookies enables “remember me” quick log in functions and allows Schafhund to improve its Services to allow you to visit Schafhund Services without re-entering your member ID and/or password. We do not use cookies to collect Personal Information or to advertise or market any products or services to you. Most browsers automatically accept cookies as the default setting. You can modify your browser setting to reject our cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie by editing your browser options. We do not use web beacons.

We use Google Analytics to help us understand how users engage with our Services.  For more information about how to opt out of having your information used by Google Analytics, visit https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/

We also use Crashlytics to analyze mobile app crash data and improve Services. The information collected and how it is used is described at http://try.crashlytics.com/terms/

How We Use Information and When We May Share and Disclose Information Generally

Personal Information, Usage Data, and Site Activity. Schafhund will never rent, sell, exchange, or share your Personal Information to third parties. We use Personal Information for internal purposes only to provide you with the Site and Services and to communicate alerts. When you launch the app, the app will locate you using one or a combination of GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth iBeacons.

Alert Data.  When an alert is initiated by the user, the following data is communicated back to Schafhund: GPS coordinates, alert type, emergency account information, user’s name and email, audio communication (if initiated), and chat communication (if initiated) (“Alert Data”). What happens next depends on whether the user’s GPS coordinates are on-campus or off-campus.

If the GPS coordinates indicate the user is on-campus, then the campus administrators and its on-campus resource officer will receive the Alert Data. If the user is off-campus, the campus administrators, on-campus resource officer and local law enforcement officer will receive Alert Data. For off-campus alerts, Schafhund’s server determines whether parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are linked to the account. If parent(s) or legal guardian(s) are linked, then Alert Data is sent to the parent(s) or legal guardian(s). If there are no parent(s) or legal guardian(s) linked and the user is off-campus, then no Alert Data is shared.

Schafhund may also use Alert Data to communicate the location of the incident to other users within that network. If an alert is not ended by a user within 24 hours (the pre-set threshold for a time-out), the system will automatically terminate the alert and GPS tracking will cease.

Broadcast messages. Personal Information may also be communicated via broadcast messages or direct alert messages. User information will also be stored in a list view so people managing the users can see which campus the user belongs.

Anonymized and Aggregated Usage Data.  Schafhund may disclose to limited third parties, certain anonymized Usage Data regarding the Site and Services. Your Usage Data may be aggregated with the Usage Data of others and will not identify you individually. Aggregate data is information we collect about a group or category of services or users from which individual user identities have been removed. In other words, no Personal Information is included in aggregate data. Aggregate data helps us understand trends in our users’ needs so that we can better consider new features or otherwise tailor our services. This Privacy Policy in no way restricts or limits our collection and use of aggregate data, and we may share aggregate data about our users with third parties for various purposes, including to help us better understand our customer needs and improve our services and for advertising and marketing purposes.

Security Information.  The Site and Services enable users to access and control personal security products and services provided by Schafhund. Schafhund will not share information that could provide access to any account or product or security, access, or usage information generated by any product unless such information is capable of and has been anonymized and aggregated with the information of many users, except as necessary to provide the Site and Services or as required by law.

Controlling Your Account

Managing Your Account.  You can review, correct, update, or change your Personal Information. Personal information we collect and messages we send, are a critical component of Schafhund Services. Accordingly, you cannot opt out of providing Personal Information or receiving messages without deleting your account.

Delete Your Account.  You can delete your account by logging out of the app and sending an account deletion request to comms@schafhund.com. Once your account is deleted, we will maintain your Personal Information and Alert Data for 90 days for purposes of preserving the emergency alerts already sent and also to allow re-activation upon request.

Automatic Updated/Deletion.  With notification from you or the campus group notifying us you are no longer associated with that campus, your account will be updated and you will be deleted from the campus on record. Once your account is updated, we will maintain your Personal Information and Alert Data for 90 days for purposes of preserving the emergency alerts already sent and also to allow re-activation upon request for that campus.  Your information may persist in our backup system for additional time.

From time to time, we may contract with other businesses to provide certain features within Schafhund Services and to provide services to Schafhund (“Service Providers”). We only provide our Service Providers with the information necessary for them to perform these services on our behalf.

Other Transfers

We may also disclose information about you if we determine that disclosure is reasonably necessary to enforce our terms and conditions or protect our operations or users.

We may share Personal Information and Usage Data with businesses controlling, controlled by, or under common control with Schafhund. If Schafhund is merged, acquired, or sold, or in the event of a transfer of some or all of our assets, we may disclose or transfer Personal Information and Usage Data in connection with such transaction.

Do Not Track.  Schafhund does not track its customers over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising and therefore does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. However, some third party sites do keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you.

Third parties that have content embedded on Schafhund’s websites such as a social feature or a stock ticker may set cookies on a user’s browser and/or obtain information about the fact that a web browser visited a specific Schafhund website from a certain IP address. Third parties cannot collect any other personally identifiable information from Schafhund’s websites unless you provide it to them directly.

Notice for Minors.  Schafhund offers interactive services which allow you to post content to share publicly or with friends.  At any time, you can delete or remove content you have posted using the deletion or removal options within our services.  If you have questions about how to remove content in a specific service or if you would like additional assistance with deletion you can contact our Schafhund Support team directly here.  Although we offer deletion capability for our services, you should be aware that the removal of content may not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of that content or information posted through the services.
